Copyright & Content Use

Nhogirl puts real work into producing original photography and content. We welcome people drawing inspiration from it, but our photos are protected by copyright. That means they can only be used in ways that are fair, respectful, and not misleading. Below we explain what uses are allowed, what are not, and how to request permission.

Copyright Basics

Copyright applies automatically from the moment a work is created. All photographs, videos, and text on nhogirl.com and our official channels (Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok @nhogirl) belong to Nhogirl BV and/or the credited photographer. Even if you find our photos elsewhere, they remain our property. This applies whether or not you earn money from your content, or whether you are a registered business or not.

Use of Our Photos

We welcome our photos being used in inspirational contexts, as long as they respect the work and do not mislead people.

Allowed

  • Outfit inspiration featuring Nhogirl pieces
  • Content about outfits, styling, or trends
  • Mood videos or edits where our photos are part of broader inspiration
  • Showroom visits, hauls and unboxings
  • Moodboards or edits where Nhogirl is the focus

For this kind of content, credit is not required if the use is respectful.

Not Allowed

  • Using our photos to promote other vintage stores
  • Commercial use by other businesses without written approval
  • Linking to or mentioning resell platforms
  • “Alternatives” or “dupe” content suggesting replacements for Nhogirl
  • Editing that changes the style or removes credit

Permissions & Licensing

If you want to use Nhogirl photos beyond the allowed cases, you must request permission, you can contact us via new@nhogirl.com. Our standard licensing rate is €350 per photo. Approval is case-by-case and not guaranteed.

Screenshots, Background Use & Platforms

Each photo counts as a separate copyrighted work, even if shown in a collage, screenshot, or briefly in a video. A screenshot of our Instagram feed is counted as the number of photos visible in it, and the same applies if our images appear small in the background.

Use is calculated per platform. If the same screenshot or group of photos appears on TikTok and Instagram, they are counted separately.

Example: if a screenshot includes five Nhogirl photos, this equals five works. If published on both TikTok and Instagram, this counts as ten works. At our licensing rate of €350 per photo, this results in 10 × €350 = €3,500.

Enforcement

We handle things fairly, but also firmly. The process is clear and step-by-step:

  1. First unauthorized use → one written warning with 24 hours to remove the content.
  2. If ignored → an invoice is issued at €350 per photo.
  3. If still unresolved → the case is handed to our legal partner. At this stage, the process cannot be withdrawn. Licensing fees remain due, and all legal costs will be charged to the infringer.

Our Principle

We support creativity and want to encourage inspiration, but the photos belong to us. Even if you believe you are using them fairly, Nhogirl decides how and where our photos may be used. The final decision always rests with us as the copyright holders. If the use respects our work, it is welcome. If it exploits it to promote something else, it is not.

When in doubt, ask first: new@nhogirl.com

Appendix: Legal Basis

  • Unauthorized use is considered copyright infringement under the Dutch Copyright Act (Auteurswet, 1912), enforced in the EU through Directive 2001/29/EC (“InfoSoc Directive”), and internationally through the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works (1886, as amended). The Berne Convention covers over 180 countries, including all of Europe, the U.S., and Asia (Japan, Korea, China, Singapore, and more). On U.S.-based platforms, enforcement may also proceed under the DMCA (17 U.S.C. §512).
